NewsDecember 13, 2007Canyon Lodge (1 blk from our condo) finally opens this weekend. The snow looks good from the Canyon Lodge webcam AND more snow is expected Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday next week!! December 11, 2007The storm left us with almost 2 feet of new snow. Canyon Lodge, 1 block away, is scheduled to open this weekend. I checked the Canyon Lodge webcams and the snow coverage looks great! Temperatures are staying in the low 20's at night and low 30's during the day allowing the resort to make additional snow. A small amount of new snow is expected today, with more arriving on Sunday evening. This would be a great weekend to go skiing and get some first tracks as more or the mountain opens to skiers. The latest snowfall allowed Tamrack Lodge X-Country Ski Center (about 3 miles away) to open for skiing as well. December is starting to look like a good ski month at Mammoth. November really stunk. Also, the reservation service we use, Mammoth Front Desk, just started an automated LAST MINUTE SPECIAL system. You can get discounts from 15 to 35% by using the below link for the coming weekend(s): https://secure.mammothfrontdesk.com/rns/search/propertydetail.aspx?ID=8 December 7, 2007After a slow start, Mammoth will be seeing 3 days of heavy snowfall, beginning on Dec 6th. The lucky skiers this weekend will ski powder on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings. The CHP was finally requiring chains to go West from Hwy 395 up Hwy 203 to the town of Mammoth - a first this season - let's pray this happens many more times this season. A few days ago, BEFORE THIS NEW SNOW, Mammoth's Broadway ski run looked like Mountain High on a good day. I was able to ski Mambo, & Stump Alley on Dec 2nd (last weekend) and got some good turns. The top of St Anton was open, but a bit icy. Several snowboarders told me that Cornice was a lot of fun, and I could see large "rooster tails" of snow behind each skier and boarder on Cornice as they cut some beautiful turns on Tuesday. Most of the rocks on Cornice were covered with man-made snow on Tuesday. With this snowfall, Mammoth should finally be ready to open much more of the mountain. Sadly, because of the late snowfall this year, many of the resort's seasonal employees have been without work. The town just hosted a dinner and fundraiser to help them with their financial hardship. When the new runs open this weekend, you should see some very ecstatic resort employees. August 17th, 2007It was a disappointing winter , but Robert has been busy training for a 5 day ride in Israel!! For more details, click on the WOL button to the right.
